Vacation Benefits

Vacation time off with pay is available to eligible employees to provide opportunities for rest, relaxation, and personal pursuits. Employees in the following employment classification(s) are eligible to earn and use vacation time as described in this policy:

* Regular full-time employees

* Regular part-time employees

* Part-time employees

* Introductory employees who, upon successful completion of the introductory period, will become regular full-time, regular part-time, or part-time employees

The amount of paid vacation time earned by regular full-time employees each year is based on the years of service of the employee as well as their Range in the Salary Schedule:

*Range 1-6: Upon initial eligibility, the employee earns vacation time at the rate of 10 vacation days per year. After completing 4 full calendar years, the employee will receive 1 additional day of vacation for each full calendar year of service up to a maximum of 25 vacation days per year.

*Range 7-14: Upon initial eligibility, the employee earns vacation time at the rate of 10 vacation days per year. After completing 1 full calendar year, the employee will receive 1 additional day of vacation for each full calendar year of service up to a maximum of 25 vacation days per year.

*Range 15-25: Upon initial eligibility, the employee earns vacation time at the rate of 15 vacation days per year. After completing 1 full calendar year, the employee will receive 1 additional day of vacation for each full calendar year of service up to a maximum of 25 vacation days per year.

Cooperative Director: Upon initial eligibility, the Director earns vacation time at the rate of 20 vacation days per year. After completing 1 full calendar year, the Director will receive 1 additional day of vacation for each full calendar year of service up to a maximum of 25 vacation days per year.

A "full calendar year" is defined as continuous active employment from January through December, with no significant period or periods of unpaid leave.

Employees begin to earn vacation time in the first full calendar month of their employment. However, before vacation time can be awarded, a waiting period of 6 calendar months must be completed. The employee will then be eligible to use the vacation time accrued during the waiting period.

Vacation time off must be approved in advance by the employee's supervisor. To request vacation time, the employee must complete and submit the proper request form to his or her supervisor. Requests will be reviewed based on a number of factors, including business needs and staffing requirements.

Vacation time will be awarded on a monthly basis on the first paycheck following the month in which it was earned. Vacation time will not be accrued during months that an employee is on unpaid leave, at the discretion of the Cooperative Director.

Regular part-time and part-time employees receive 6 hours vacation time per month, which is pro-rated based upon the percentage of full-time equivalency regularly scheduled to work.

Vacation time off is paid at the employee's base pay rate at the time of vacation. It does not include overtime or any special forms of compensation such as incentives, commissions, bonuses, or shift differentials.

As stated above, employees are encouraged to use available paid vacation time for rest, relaxation, and personal pursuits. In the event that available vacation is not used by the end of a year, employees may carry unused time forward. If the total amount of unused vacation time reaches a "cap," further vacation accrual will stop. The ?cap? is equal to two times the current annual vacation amount. When the employee uses paid vacation time and brings the available amount below the cap, vacation accrual will begin again.

Upon termination of employment, employees will be paid for unused vacation time that has been earned through the last full calendar month of employment.

Paid time off for vacation will not be counted as hours worked for the purpose of determining overtime.
